According to the World Bank, China is currently the 2nd largest economy in the world. The Economic Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) has reported that in 2014 China was North Carolina’s third largest trading partner, with a total of $2,661 million of products and services exported to China from North Carolina businesses. Since 2000, Chinese businesses have invested nearly $5.5 billion in North Carolina, making North Carolina the 3rd largest state receiving Chinese investments in the US.

Michael Chen: Founder and President, New Mind Education

Michael Chen is the founder and President of New Mind Education. Formerly, Michael was General Manager of Red Hat China, Vice President of Red Hat’s corporate marketing team and COO at Michael received his bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University, a master’s degree in computer networking engineering at N.C. State, and an MBA at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Richard Yang: Chairman, Yang’s Holding LLC

Richard Yang is the Founder and current President of the Carolina Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCCC), a nonprofit organization established in 2011 dedicated to provide a platform for governmental, commercial, and educational/cultural organizations in the US and China to build partnerships and to advance business exchanges. In August 2014, Mr. Yang was appointed as Principal Consultant in International Business and Trade to Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest, the 1st Chinese consultant to the Governor of North Carolina in history.

Eric Nelson (Moderator): Director of Development – Asia Pacific, USA InvestCo

Mr. Nelson has extensive international experience in setting up and managing Asian operations, subsidiaries and joint ventures on behalf of US and European organizations. Mr. Nelson speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese and lived and worked in Asia (China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Thailand) for nearly 20 years. He has developed an in-depth understanding of the differences between Asian and Western business thinking and employs a common sense approach to operational and business management by focusing on people, process and strategy, not just tools.
