Organic Farming: Turning Green and More Profitable

NCCBA Luncheon 8-5-2016


You are cordially invited to join the NCCBA's monthly Luncheon on August 5, 2016. Two honored guest speakers will share their rich experience: Kevin Hardison, Agricultural Marketing Specialist with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; Changhe Zhou, Founder and CTO of Huanong Ecorganic Farm. Kevin will speak on what an organic certification means. Dr. Zhou will share his experience on why we are turning to organic vegetable; specifically, he will talk about the term of organic vegetable, principle of organic vegetable, standard of organic agriculture, organic certification, and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). About Kevin Hardison

Kevin Hardison is an Agricultural Marketing Specialist with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. He has held that position since 2004. His current responsibilities are Local Foods, Farmers Markets, Direct Marketing Agricultural Fairs and general fruit and vegetable promotional duties. He has worked with the organic industry for several years.

About Changhe Zhou

Dr. Changhe Zhou is currently founder and CTO of Huanong Ecorganic farm at Hurdle Mills, NC. Prior to this, he was a senior research scientist at Department of Horticulture and Department of Biology of Virginia Tech from 2004 to 2016; he was a postdoctoral Research Associate at Department of Biology, West Virginia, from 2002 to 2004; from 2001 to 2002, Dr. Zhou also worked as a visiting scientist at Fruit Laboratory of US Department of Agriculture (USDA). He published more than 20 papers in The Plant Cell, Structure, The Plant Journal, Plant Molecular Biology, etc. He was awarded Advanced Individuals of Extension by China Department of Agriculture, the First Prize of Teaching by Huazhong Agricultural University, and the Outstanding Youth of Hongshan District, Wuhan, etc.
